James Doohan has died today at the age of 85 from pneumonia and Alzheimer’s. I have yet to see a halfway decent report to link to.
James Doohan actually had a profound effect on my early life. I think I mentioned earlier in this blog that one of my earliest memories and earliest introduction to Science Fiction was watching the second pilot episode of Star Trek on a Sunday afternoon with my mum when I was four. His character was called Scotty, he was from Scotland - and not just Scotland, but Aberdeen (despite his - hmm, shall we say over the top - accent)- and he saved the day with his engineering tricks on more than one occasion. Noticing any similarities?
It's a shame, poor bloke. I know he was ill and in pain for some time though, so at least his suffering is ended. He’ll be missed.
